January 7, 2014. Another January day, another round of GRAMMY performer announcements. Lorde, Katy Perry and Robin Thicke with Chicago will take the stage later this month. (Thicke, if you remember, performed at the GRAMMY nominations concert last month with Earth, Wind & Fire (read the OFC interview), so he’s just continuing on that same train, it seems.)
But the most surprising part of the announcement? That Metallica, eight-time GRAMMY winners mind you, will perform with the GRAMMY Cultural Ambassador to China, Lang Lang.

All four are nominated this year: Lorde with four nods (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Royals” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Pure Heroine); Thicke with three noms (Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Blurred Lines,” Best Pop Vocal Album for Blurred Lines); Perry with two (Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Roar”); and Metallica with one (for their Metallica Through the Never soundtrack(Music up for Best Recording Package). Music's Biggest Night, the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards, will return to Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, and will be broadcast in high-definition and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
